Thanksgiving Week: Hogs and Tigers

It's Thanksgiving week and I'm ready to rest, eat, and watch football a lot.  I don't have much to say about this week.  It was great that we beat Ole Miss.  Now we need to continue that same energy against Missouri and remind them that they've beaten us a lot in the series because their wins were during our worst decade of football.  It's time to put that decade behind us continue this new era with Sam Pittman where we compete more and Missouri doesn't keep the Battle Line trophy that much.

I am current 166-45 (78.67%) on my College Football picks and 77-66 (53.85%) on my NFL picks.  Let's pick some more!

Ole Miss vs. Arkansas 2022

Last week was a tough loss against LSU.  If only KJ was healthy and could play.  But for Ole Miss, he's ready to help the Hogs win.  Our defense is consistently playing better now.  13 points against Auburn when the starters were still in.  21 points against Liberty, but shut them out in the 2nd half.  13 points against LSU and leading the SEC with 35 sacks.  If they can do that with a similar defensive performance against Ole Miss in 2020 with around 7 INTs and a healthy KJ, we can definitely beat them and go bowling.  We'll just have to see.

I am 147-42 (77.78%) for College Football and 66-64 (50.77%) for NFL.  At least I have a 2 win streak for Fantasy Football compared to my predictions for NFL.  Let's go with the picks!

College Football Week 12:

  • Navy vs. UCF: UCF
  • Ole Miss vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  • Illinois vs. Michigan: Michigan
  • TCU vs. Baylor: TCU

Battle of the Golden Boot: 2022 Version

It's that old rivalry again.  LSU may be favored, but that's already happened plenty of times and we'd beat them.  Remember in 2007 when Arkansas was 6-5 and LSU was #1 and we beat them in overtime?  At least that's one of my favorite ones from this rivalry.  This one will be a little different because it is really cold outside and it snowed in November in Arkansas!  We'll see what happens then.

So far, I'm 132-36 (78.57%) for College Football and 60-57 (51.28%) for NFL.  Here are my picks:

College Football Week 11:

  • LSU vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  • Indiana vs. Ohio State: Ohio State

College Week 8 & NFL Week 7: Razorbacks Bye Week

It is week 8 in College Football now, and the Razorbacks are finally getting a bye week.  Bye weeks can be good for the team.  They can rest up and prepare extra for the next opponent.  Last year, we went 3-1 in the regular season after the bye week.  Hopefully, a similar result can happen for us as the season continues.

My record for College Football this year is 108-31 (77.70%) and for NFL is 46-44 (51.11%).  Let's go with this week's picks!

Battle of Hogs and Latter-Day Saints

Last week was a tough loss.  We had many missed opportunities and KJ Jefferson wasn't cleared to play.  Hopefully, the high altitude won't affect our performance and we can play a great game and get back on track after losing 3 games in a row.

So far this season, I'm 98-27 (78.40%) for college football and 39-38 (50.65%) for the NFL.

This college football season has been my second best but this is my worst for the NFL.  Let's get those NFL picks improved!

Arkansas vs. Mississippi State

We are around the mid point now of the College Football season.  Arkansas started 3-0, but has now had 2 straight tough losses against Texas A&M and Alabama.  We score 32 points on average per game, but we give up 30.6 points on average per game.  We have had a lot of great moments so far, but also we've been disappointing in a lot of areas.

For offense, we seem to waste too many drives and we've been fumbling the ball too much.  On defense, we've had 21 total sacks but we give up way too many big plays.  But, I think the biggest thing we need to fix is momentum shifts.

We seem to lose a ton of our momentum in the game whenever the other team makes a big play.  Texas A&M scoops and scores one of our fumbles when we were on track to bring the score 21-7.  Instead, our offense takes awhile to get it's grove back late in the 4th quarter and our defense gave up too many big plays.

Alabama game.  End of the 3rd has the score 28-23 with Arkansas coming back.  Alabama scores another TD and we never get the fire again in the game.  We need to work on not letting momentum shifts shake us and keep playing.

Hopefully, we have a fire in us to prove that we are still going to end the season well.  It would be fitting to turn this 2 game losing streak around by beating the team that gave Sam Pittman his first SEC win with Arkansas.  It also ended the 20 game SEC losing streak we had during the Chad Morris nightmare seasons and Bret Bielema's last lackluster 2017 season.

Just beat the Mississippi State Bulldogs.  I've always hated their uniform color combination.

Time for the picks!  I'm 84-24 (80%) for college football and 29-33 (46.77%) for NFL.

College Football Week 6:

  • Arkansas vs. Mississippi St: Arkansas
  • Michigan vs. Indiana: Michigan
  • Tennessee vs. LSU: LSU

Bama and Hogs

Last week was a tough loss.  It was tough, but let's get tougher because of it and beat Bama.  Last year, we only lost 35-42 to Alabama on their homefield.  They went on to go to the National Championship too.  At home this year, I say we can have a chance to scare them again.  We might scare them enough to even win the game finally.  But of course all we've got to do is cheer them on and let them play the game.

I am 72-14 (83.72%) for my college football picks and 21-25 (45.65%) for my NFL picks.  I better pick up my game with my NFL picks!

College Football Week 5:

Southwest Classic

It's that classic match-up again.  Except this time, it doesn't feel like it might be the continuation of a long win streak that Texas A&M had on us.  We finally beat them last year for the first time since 2011.  It is now feeling like a good match-up again instead of another win for Texas A&M.  We did almost beat them a few times from 2012-2020, but it always came out with a heartbreaking loss.  Hopefully Arkansas plays well and wakes up from the bad performance that happened against Missouri State.

Now it is time for football predictions.  For College Football for 2022, I'm 56-9 (86.15%) so far and 15-15 (50%) for NFL in 2022.  Hopefully I'll do better for NFL.

College Football Week 4:

  • Arkansas vs. Texas A&M: Arkansas

Bobby Petrino is Back! Brace the Neck Braces!

This week might be an emotional one for Razorback fans.  Bobby Petrino returns to Fayetteville but as the coach of another team.  Some fans will probably boo him for the way he messed up and got fired, which lead to some heart breaking seasons after his departure.  And some fans will probably give him applause for thank him for the great seasons that he gave Arkansas.  We went 10-3 and 11-2 for his last two seasons as our coach for the years 2010 and 2011 respectively.  Our best season since then was last year when we went 9-4 in Sam Pittman's second year as the Head Hog.  We haven't been able to get to the level of football that we played in Petrino's best seasons, but it looks like we are progressing that way.  Let's make sure to be professional and make sure we sweep past Missouri State like we are supposed to.

So far, I am 36-6 (85.71%) with my picks for College Football in 2022 and 8-7 (53.33%) for my NFL picks in 2022.  Here are this weeks picks:

It's week 1 for NFL and week 2 of College Football!  Last week was an entertaining game for Arkansas against Cincinnati.  I know it for sure, because I was there.  It was loud and the crowd was really into the game.  I have hopes that Arkansas will show a lot of fun and energy like the coaches pictured above.

Football is Back! College Football Week 1

It's that time of year again!  Football is back baby!  We've got big fantasy shows like House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power which will get nerds all excited.  It's a good part of the year in 2022.  NFL Fantasy Football just had league drafts and we are all ready for Labor Day Weekend and the fall season.

As usual, I will make my predictions for all Razorback games for the season and of course make my Week 1 picks.  My picks for all Razorback games:

  1. Cincinnati vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  2. South Carolina vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  3. Missouri St vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  4. Arkansas vs. Texas A&M: Texas A&M
  5. Alabama vs. Arkansas: Alabama
  6. Arkansas vs. Mississippi St: Arkansas
  7. Arkansas vs. BYU: Arkansas
  8. Arkansas vs. Auburn: Auburn
  9. Liberty vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  10. LSU vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  11. Ole Miss vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  12. Arkansas vs. Missouri: Arkansas
This brings my prediction to be Arkansas goes 9-3 (5-3) on the regular season.  This has been my most optimistic prediction for a whole Arkansas season.  In 2020, in predicted 3-7 and we went 3-7.  In 2021, I predicted 7-5 and we went 8-4.  I hope that we actually do get close to 9-3 which just shows that the football program is in a good direction.

Now, I will list my regular picks for College Football Week 1.

  • Cincinnati vs. Arkansas: Arkansas
  • West Virginia vs. Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh
  • W Michigan vs. Michigan St: Michigan St
  • Sam Houston vs. Texas A&M: Texas A&M
  • Colorado St vs. Michigan: Michigan
  • NC State vs. East Carolina: NC State
  • Oregon vs. Georgia: Georgia
  • UTEP vs. Oklahoma: Oklahoma
  • Bethune vs. Miami: Miami

  • Illinois St vs. Wisconsin: Wisconsin
  • Miami OH vs. Kentucky: Kentucky
  • Utah State vs. Alabama: Alabama
  • Notre Dame vs. Ohio State: Ohio State
  • Clemson vs. Georgia Tech: Clemson
As you can see, I have 2 picks that are upsets.  Florida over #7 Utah and UTSA or #24 Houston.  We'll see if it plays out like that.

As always, have a great weekend and enjoy all the football that we're gonna get!

Super Bowl Like We've Never Seen Before

It's finally here!  The Super Bowl is here!  I don't know about all of you, but this looks like a great Super Bowl to me.  We have the Bengals who have never won a Super Bowl, and then we have the Rams who haven't won the Super Bowl since the 1999 season and their QB, Matthew Stafford, is a 13-year NFL veteran going to his first Super Bowl.  This is Bengal's QB Joe Burrow's first too, but he had arguably one of the best seasons ever at LSU in 2019 and it's his 2nd year in Cincinnati.  Matthew Stafford had to play 12 seasons with the Lions to get here finally.  Either way, if you are a big football fan, this will be so great.  The NFL FPI does favor the Rams (66% chance) but I really don't know.  I think the Bengals have a great shot too.  I guess if you were to put a gun to my head and answer,  I would say Bengals because they've just been shocking me the whole playoffs and I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled this one.

That's my pick.  Bengals.

I went 0-2 last week and so I'm 1-5 (16.67%) for my NFL Playoffs predictions.  These playoffs have just been unpredictable to me.  I am now 150-102 (59.52%) on the whole season. This have been my lowest accuracy so far for a season in the NFL.  My highest is 63.96% for the 2020 season so it's not too bad.  These games have been great and I hope this Super Bowl is great too.

Go Bengals!  But I'm fine with either one because what a great Super Bowl we have this year.

NFL Conference Championship Weekend

It's that time of year again.  We will see who will go to the Super Bowl this year between the Bengals and Chiefs for AFC and 49ers and Rams for NFC.  We could possibly have a Bengals vs. 49ers or Rams Super Bowl or Chiefs vs. 49ers or Rams Super Bowl.  Last week, I went 1-3 (25%) in my predictions.  It was a crazy playoffs weekend.  Probably the best ever.  I was really on the edge of my seat particularly watching Rams vs. Buccaneers and Bills vs. Chiefs.  This brings my NFL season total to 150-100 (60%).  I hope these games will be great too and the Super Bowl ends with a bang.

NFL Championship Round:

Bengals vs. Chiefs: Chiefs

49ers vs. Rams: 49ers

Divisional Round!

It's the Divisional Round!  Sorry I didn't post last week.  My new job got me really tired and I wanted to do nothing last Saturday.  But, I am ready to go.  Since Georgia beat Alabama in the National Championship, I was 216-77 (73.72%) for my College Football predictions.  I went 8-8 (50%) on my last NFL predictions which brings me to 149-97 (60.57%).  I decided to take a look at my prediction performance so far through out the years on this graph below.

It looks like my accuracy hasn't really changed much.  I think it is because I have been doing more games than when I first began.  Oh well.  I still do it.

But! Let's get to the predictions now.

NFL Divisional Week:

Bengals vs. Titans: Titans

49ers vs. Packers: Packers

Bills vs. Chiefs: Chiefs

Rams vs. Buccaneers: Buccaneers

Week 18 of NFL and National Championship Monday

College Football is almost over for the season.  Just one more game.  The game that all of the teams want to get to.  The National Championship.  I pick Alabama because they handled Georgia pretty well the last time they played and I can't see Nick Saban losing to a former assistant twice in the same season.  But, Georgia could surprise us and play a closer game.  Who knows what will happen.

I'm happy that Arkansas went 9-4 on the season.  I only predicted them to go 7-5 and they did more than I thought they would.  Hopefully the players that are leaving the program won't affect us much and that Sam Pittman can keep this success going.  Bumper Pool is staying for another year which is good for the defense.  We'll just see.

This Bowl Season, I went 23-14 (62.2%) for my College Football predictions (Total: 216-76 (73.97%)) and I went 12-4 (75%) for NFL predictions (Total: 141-89 (61.3%)).  Now let's do this week's predictions!

Almost New Year, Plenty of Football

I took a break from last week from predictions and now I am back.  So far, I am 13-9 in the bowl games so far.  I would be 17-5 if I didn't favor the SEC teams.  Oh well.  I'm excited for the playoff games to start and for Arkansas' bowl game.  I hope the season ends with a bang.  The NFL has this week and next week to finally end the regular season and begin the playoffs.  We'll see how this all goes.

Last week I went 9-7 (56.25%) for NFL predictions (Total: 129-85 (60.3%)).  Now let's do this week's predictions!  I'm not updating my college predictions until bowl season is over.

Bowl Games and NFL Games

It's that time again.  It is about to be bowl season.  There are many bowl games and I will make my predictions for all of them.  Especially for the Outback Bowl since my Razorbacks will play in it.  Even though Arkansas is 8-4 and Penn State is 7-5, they still seem to be a tough opponent to beat.  Right now the ESPN FPI has Penn State favored at 58.9%.  Penn State is 0-4 against teams that in the current Top 25 and Arkansas is 1-3 for this season.  Both are 0-3 against teams that are currently in the Top 10.  They look evenly matched so we will see how it goes.  But I feel confident that the Razorbacks can end the season 9-4 and be 4-0 in trophy games this year.  There are a ton of bowl games so we will just get to those in a second for predictions.

If you have followed me for a while, I made a preseason prediction for all of Arkansas' games.  I predicted that we would go 7-5 and we went 8-4.  It makes me happy that we actually performed better than I expected.  For the 2020 season, I predicted us going 3-7 and we did and I predicted the exact games that we would win and lose.  The link for the 2021 season prediction is here.

Last week I went 0-1 (0%) for my College Football predictions (Total: 193-62 (75.69%)) and 9-5 (64.3%) for NFL predictions (Total: 120-78 (60.6%)).  Now let's do this week's predictions!

Army and Navy and Heisman

It is that week again.  We have the Heisman Trophy Ceremony and the Army vs. Navy game.  Next week is when Bowl Season starts.  This week is just a little break from a lot of College Football before that part of the season starts.  When it comes to the Heisman, Bryce Young will definitely win it this year.  His stats are crazy but what convinced me was his last 2 games.  When he played Auburn, he didn't really have a good game compared to how he usually plays. He was 25-51 with 317 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 INT.  But his Heisman moment was on Alabama's last drive during regulation before overtime.  Alabama gets the ball with 1:32 left in the 4th Quarter starting at the Alabama 3 yard line.  3 yard line!  Bryce Young was able to lead the offense to score a touchdown with 24 seconds left in the game to tie it.  If it wasn't for his brilliant time management and clutch throws then Alabama might've lost the game and not be in the playoff potentially.  That was the drive that convinced me that he deserves the Heisman.  He already has the monster stats from the whole season.  Now he has a great moment when his team really needed him during adversity to be clutch and give them the chance to win.  He also threw 421 yards and 3 TDs against Georgia.  Freaking Georgia!  That's my case for Bryce Young for Heisman.

With Army vs. Navy, Army all the way this year.

Last week I went 6-5 (54.5%) for my College Football predictions (Total: 193-61 (75.98%)) and 9-5 (64.3%) for NFL predictions (Total: 111-73 (60.3%)).  Now let's do this week's predictions!

Conference Championship Week: 2021

It's that week again.  It's Conference Championship weekend.  It's the weekend that will finally determine the Top 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings and show who plays who for Bowl Season.  This is definitely one of my favorite parts of the year and not just because of Christmas.  This time of year really shows us what the rest of the College Football teams and NFL teams are made of.  College Football teams try their best to get in their best bowl game and then really go out to end the season well.  NFL teams are really cracking down to play better to end the season well and get a shot at entering the playoffs.  All of this with the Christmas season just makes it a great time.

The regular season for the Razorbacks ended with an 8-4 record with 4-4 in the conference.  8 wins is the same amount of wins from the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons combined.  These seasons were Bret Bielema's last season and the Chad Morris years.  We have grown so much since those terrible years.  This is actually the first season that I feel that resembles more with the success that we had with Bobby Petrino.  We are not there yet but with how Sam Pittman is handling things, we can definitely get there.  With Bret Bielema, we did have great moments but too many times we would get blown out or lose to a team that we should've beaten.  This year we only got blown out by Georgia (obviously they are #1 now) and had close games with Ole Miss and Alabama.  Auburn was a more or less a close and blown out game but sometimes those games can happen from nowhere.  But we've had other close games where we came out of the top where we would normally choke under Bret Bielema or Chad Morris.  With Chad Morris it was just terrible.  I'll show you a chart of the average amount of points we score each game (offensive) compared to points we give up (defensive) from 2009-2021.

From 2009-2011 are Bobby Petrino years and he was good at keeping the offensive points more than defensive points.  The only years after that where that happens is from 2014-2015 and 2021.  If you know Sam Pittman, he was here as one of the coaches from 2013-2015 and then head coach from 2020-2021.  Notice that the years after Bobby Petrino that we've been able to score more Offensive Points than Defensive Points given is when Sam Pittman is here.  Our winning percentage is different because of this.  When Offensive Points > Defensive Points, our winning percentage is 67.53%.  When Offensive Points < Defensive Points, our winning percentage is 30.12%.  It's a simple concept of football that determines how well the team is.  Score more than the other team.  Bobby Petrino did that more often and that's why his winning percentage was at 74.36% from his best years from 2009-2011.  All I have to say is so far we seem to be on the right track to get like that again but of course we will need to do more.  Seeing how consistent Bobby Petrino was in doing this is why we Razorback fans really miss those good days of Arkansas Football.

Last week I went 18-5 (78.3%) for my College Football predictions (Total: 187-56 (77%)) and 11-4 (73.3%) for NFL predictions (Total: 102-68 (60%)).  Now let's do this week's predictions!
